Introduction

The current competitive scenario of the market in which companies operate is characterised by the dire need to reduce costs without compromising on quality and customer service. This is, in turn, obliging companies to constantly adapt and innovate. On the other hand, companies are having to deal with, not only, the instability of the energy market but also increasingly demanding customers. This together with the strict operational norms and regulations set in place by the European Union and governments of different countries, that make respect for the environment mandatory, have forced organisations to review their approach to their choice of energy options.
A Master’s in Energy Management thus ensures the gain of necessary knowledge for a career that is modern and actualised and which is of great importance in any country.
Objectives

1. Gain advanced knowledge and technical competence for the efficient and effective resolution of a large number of problems in the area of Energy Management.
2. Develop skills for high quality professional work and for the performance of Administrative functions in the public sector or private sectors, both national and international.
3. Build a body of original applications developed particularly with reference to research in the field of Energy Management to enable the student to pursue studies of a much higher level including the 3rd Cycle of higher studies.

Competence to carry out administrative functions in the public sector or private sectors, both in national and international companies. In addition, students will have the skills to work for companies in the capacity of agents of innovation.
Capacity of entrepreneurial initiative and business management with skills to comprehend, interpret and take advantage of new opportunities and business in the areas of energy.
Dissertation, Project or Internship
Students can choose to do their curricular internship in the 2nd year either in an industry or in a research institution. A number of the ISG’s professors are involved in research projects in various institutes such as:
ULHT – Universidade Lusófona de Humanidade e Tecnologias
ITQB – Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa
IST – Instituto Superior Técnico of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa
CEBQ – Centre for Biological and Chemical Engineering
IDMEC – Institute of Mechanical Engineering
IDMEC is a private non-profit association of science, technology and training whose funding members are IST & FEUP (Faculdade de Engenharia do Universidade de Porto). It is a leading research institute of the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LAETA).
Hence, the teachers' participation in research projects of these institutions guarantees, on the one hand, that students become involved in ongoing research and, on the other hand, it facilitates the integration of master’s degree holders into these programs.
Furthermore, ISG has established protocols with energy-related companies such as: Galp Energia, Irradiare and TerraSystemic which facilitates student-appointment as executives in the company during the final phase of the course. This, naturally, widens the potential to apply the knowledge acquired either in an organisational context or in research.
